Bootie Chewning and Audrey Thrasher - Vinton Vision Committee

In 1945, a visionary group of Vinton citizens and leaders developed a plan to construct a memorial to honor World War II Veterans of Vinton who were killed in action. By 1948 the beautiful Vinton War Memorial Building was erected and dedicated. In 2006, the Vinton Vision Committee recognized the need to further honor both the  past Vinton and Roanoke County veterans killed in action along with military men and women who have or who are currently serving our country. The Vision Committee has established an all-volunteer steering committee and capital campaign committee, conducted a nationwide search for an artist, facilitated opportunities for citizens’ input, prepared a timeline for each stage of development and construction, evaluated financial means, and cultivated communication with the community.
